The origins of the Havana Club date back in 1878 when José Arechabala, the founder of Havana Club opened the "La Vizcaya" distillery in Cardenas, on the Cuban coast.

The name Havana Club was chosen to unify two worlds: the traditional Cuban roots and the famous Havana and the internationally known night of Havana evoking clubs. These two elements continue to be the heart of the brand's identity.
In 1935, the Havana Club Bar opened on the Place de la Cathedral, in the heart of Havana. From the 1930s to 50s, cocktails in Havana Club Bat were prepared by the most famous visitors to the moment of Mary Pickford in Marlène Dietrich, from Jean-Paul Sastre to Ernest Hemingway, from Nat King Cole to Gary Cooper.
In the decade of the 1950s under the Fulgencio Batista regime, competition brought the brand into serious financial problems.
After the Revolution, the Cuban government relaunched Havana Club and made its own rum brand. Created a state distillery in Santa Cruz del Norte, near Havana, where the best Cuban technicians and masters of the rum began to manufacture the Havana Club rum.
Nowadays, Havana Club is the only real brand of Cuban rum internationally. From Europe to South America, symbolizes supremacy, tradition and passion for Cuban rum.
